How to Request Care

The first step to assessing your family’s eligibility for the subsided In Home Care Program provided by the Australian Government Department of Eduction is to contact the relevant In Home Care Support Agency.

Breathing Space with Gecko does not manage the eligibility assessment for subsidised In Home Care, or determine which subsidies may apply - This is managed by the relevant support agency for each state.

In Home Care support agencies work with families to:

  • assess initial and ongoing eligibility for In Home Care

  • assess if education and care needs are in scope for In Home Care

  • connect them with suitable In Home Care services

  • help children transition to other approved care types

  • develop a Family Management Plan.

They also work with In Home Care Services to:

  • intake and refer eligible familes

  • help interpret the In Home Care National Guidelines

  • facilitate a community of practice among In Home Care services

  • support a high quality and nationally consistent approach to In Home Care.
